Project Overview

Project Name: Grain Reserve Station, Fangchenggang Port

Project Type: Building Foundation (Port Infrastructure)

Location: Fangchenggang, Guangxi Province, China

Foundation Details: 562 cast-in-place concrete piles, diameter 800 mm, length 22–25 m, concrete grade C40

Testing Equipment: RSM-SY7D Ultrasonic Pile Integrity Tester

Testing Purpose & Method
As part of third-party quality inspection, ultrasonic cross-hole testing was performed on the foundation piles of the grain reserve station. The objective was to evaluate pile integrity, identify defects, and ensure compliance with design and safety requirements.

Testing Scope

Pile foundation integrity testing of the full group of piles

Focus on potential end defects, continuity, and uniformity

Testing Results

Main Issue: Sediment accumulation at the pile toe

Impact: The presence of toe sediment can reduce effective bearing capacity and compromise overall structural safety.

Findings: Most tested piles showed evidence of sediment at the bottom, leading to reduced evaluation grades (Category 3 or 4) when continuous ultrasonic signals indicated defects.

Evaluation

Overall Engineering Evaluation: The majority of piles were affected by bottom sediment, posing a risk to load-bearing performance. Given the pile diameter (800 mm) and limited number of access tubes (two per pile), integrity assessment was challenging, with detected anomalies significantly influencing classification results.

Equipment Performance: The RSM-SY7D performed with high accuracy, producing reliable detection signals and enabling effective identification of pile toe sediment defects.
