Case Study: High-Precision Photomask Production Base Construction Project
Project Overview
-
Project Name: High-Precision Photomask Production Base Construction Project
-
Project Type: Industrial Construction (Foundation Pile Testing)
-
Location: Foshan, China
-
Testing Organization: China 15th Metallurgical Construction Group Co., Ltd.
-
Testing Date: June 21, 2024
-
Testing Equipment: RSM-PRT(R) Low Strain Pile Integrity Tester
Testing Purpose & Background
Due to the special geological conditions at the project site, static jacking machines could not be used for pile installation. Instead, hydraulic hammers were employed to drive precast concrete pipe piles with lengths close to 50 meters. While this method enabled efficient pile installation, it raised concerns about potential structural damage to pile shafts, particularly at welded joints, caused by hammering vibrations.
To ensure the structural integrity of the piles and confirm their suitability for load-bearing, low strain integrity testing was performed.
Testing Method
-
Method Applied: Low Strain Method (Sonic Echo Testing)
-
Scope: Engineering piles across the project site
-
Procedure: Test signals were collected and analyzed to detect discontinuities and evaluate overall pile shaft quality.
Results & Evaluation
-
Piles with welded joints were found to show distinct signal reflections at the splice sections.
-
The defects at the welded joints were clearly identified through the low strain test data, and their locations corresponded accurately to the measured depths.
-
The results provided reliable confirmation of the structural integrity of the majority of piles while highlighting areas requiring closer attention.
Equipment Performance
The RSM-PRT(R) Low Strain Pile Integrity Tester delivered precise and stable test results, enabling accurate identification of potential weld defects and ensuring the overall safety and reliability of the pile foundation for this advanced industrial project.
