Testing Purpose & Method
The testing aimed to carry out construction self-inspection of borehole quality for bridge foundation piles. The ultrasonic borehole method was used to evaluate borehole diameter, depth, and verticality in accordance with design and safety requirements.
Testing Results
Diameter & Verticality: Within design tolerances, confirmed as qualified.
Depth: Records showed inconsistencies. Rope measurement indicated 31.6 m, while ultrasonic probe reached the borehole bottom at 30.2 m.
Equipment Notes:
Signals were generally good, but noise levels were relatively high.
Automatic tracking of borehole wall lines was less effective, requiring frequent manual adjustment.
Site engineers questioned the reliability of manual line drawing.
Depth measurement accuracy was affected, and recent projects also reported issues with cable arrangement and smoothness of deployment.
Evaluation
Overall Engineering Assessment: Borehole diameter and verticality met project standards, confirming construction quality of key parameters. Depth records required careful cross-checking to ensure accuracy.
Equipment Performance: The RSM-HGTC produced usable results but showed limitations in noise control, automated tracking, and depth recording, highlighting areas for equipment optimization.
